Cockroaches
Cockroach Species
There are a number of different species. The main pest species found in residential and commercial properties include:
American Cockroach
The largest structure-infesting species, up to 40mm long. Reddish-brown with light yellow markings around pronotum.
Australian Cockroach
Up to 35mm in length. They are brown with distinctive yellow markings around the pronotum and on wings.
Smokybrown Cockroach
Up to 35mm in length. They are dark brown to black in color.
Brown-Banded Cockroach
Up to 14mm in length. They are light brown with brownish-yellow bands across thorax and abdomen.
German Cockroach
Up to 15mm in length. They are light to medium brown with two dark longitudinal lines on the pronotum.
Oriental Cockroach

The large species of cockroaches are often found living in roof cavities, wall cavities, and under houses. Outside, they congregrate in and around garbage areas, drains, etc. At night time, they enter the living areas of your home seeking food.
German Cockroaches are a smaller species and mostly found in kitchens and bathrooms. They are a major pest for commercial properties such as restaurants and cafes. If not treated professionally, these cockroaches can multiply rapidly and overun kitchens and the like.
Cockroaches are well known carriers of diseases. They spoil foodstuffs and spread germs by their excrements.
Hygiene and clean conditions are very important factors for controlling cockroaches, but they can also be found in the cleanest houses and business premises.
Control of Cockroaches
Control of cockroaches is an ongoing concern of significant public health importance.
Cockroaches are better at hiding than people are at finding them. A professional pest control technician knows where to look and has the necessary skills, equipment and chemicals to eradicate cockroaches.
Modern chemicals used to control cockroach infestations are now environmentally friendly, and quite safe for humans but have high toxicity to cockroaches.
North Shore Pest Control uses a combination of chemical formulations to combat the various species of cockroaches.
Particularly in the case of German Cockroaches, a gel bait is used. The bait is placed exactly to areas where cockroaches are usually found congregating. The product is completely odourless and application is done with little preparation needed.
North Shore Pest Control can advise what type of treatment is necessary depending on the type of cockroach infestation your property has. To ensure all possible cockroach populations are eradicated, treatment of all areas within residential houses is generally necessary.
It is the larvae that cause most damage to carpets, usually starting along the edges and in areas behind furniture that is rarely moved for cleaning.
To prepare for a carpet beetle treatment, furniture should be moved and all carpeted areas vaccuumed. The contents of the vaccuum should then be disposed of.
All floor areas should be thoroughly cleaned prior to being treated by North Shore Pest Control.
